Purchased Canon LADC58B... a few ?s

I picked up the Canon 58mm Adapter today... and now I want to get a CPL. I've found a handful from Tiffen, Hoya, and others. I've never really dabbled in camera add ons, so I was wondering... with this 58mm adapter, I can ONLY use 58mm lenses, correct?

Seems like I should know that, or that it common sense. I just want to make sure before I buy some additional lenses.

PS. Could I use say a 52mm lense if I bought a step ring?

Your correct. Rerading the PS, you might as well stay with 58mm and avoid the expense of using adaptors
