hey all, i got my 70-200 2.8 on monday and had it on the tripod earlier this evening, when i loosened the knob to twist the body in to portrait mode it feels as though the lens is almost derailing as it twists then clicks back in to place then keep going and it does the same thing, is this common?
cheers

I have noticed something like you describe, it's not as smooth as the collar on my 300.
have you checked to see if there is some kind of physical obstruction or anomaly between the lens and the tripod mount?

the only thing i thought it was when i removed the collar were the small screws but i cant imagine them being the cause.

You know actually as i think about it,mine does feel quite alot like you describe. I have a similar thing with my mpe 65 " which takes the same tripod collar only black"
I would guess its either normal or a common complaint, i wouldn't worry about it too much, im more worried about rotating it too much so that damn thing comes off and scuffs the lens lol

Mine rotates pretty easily, though it does make some very faint clicking as it realigns with the screws from time to time. I don't find myself having to exert any extra force though.

I'll prob get shot for saying this but perhaps some of the screws are too loose? Although this is unrealated my 85L kept sticking on my camera, it was getting me mightly scared, i just tightened up the screws round the rear of the lens mount " god that was scary lol" and now its all fine. It might be a similar thing.
