The consumer bodies (XTi, 400D) are being announced now for the Christmas season, and you can bet they will be in the stores by October at the latest.
If there are any new announcements of Pro models (1 series) at Photokina, it is possible that they may not be available right away. But you can count on Canon delivering when they say they will.

In Hong Kong, the older models tend to start disappearing as soon as the announcement is made and the new model is on the shelves within a month......yup - in a month.

I talked to reps today - 2 different countries - they proposed the new canon will be in stores in early october

Yes, early October sounds right. Coz after the rumors start going out, the old models suddenly vanish from the shelves in HKG and they start pre-orders for the new model.
I wonder what happened to the older model that were in stock :(

Its funny though - coz when I wanted the Drebel, the XT was announced and it just vanished off the shelves here.
And then, I did what I had to do - order it from the US and get it fedexed ;)

Canon themselves state that the 400 d will be in shops already next month
