Are there any harmful side effects from sending a G3 (or any digital camera) through an airport x-ray machine?

There's not supposed to be. I've certainly taken mine through quite a few scanners with no harmful effects.

Regards,
I guess the only danger is from rough handling by the security people. But I've learned not to joke with those guys! :D

In the US there is no problem with airport security as far as the scanning machines are concerned with digital equipment (except very sensitive scientific stuff), however, I am given to understand that some countries are using some other technologies which may cause problems to a small number of hardrives (will not affect CF cards to my knowledge, different technology). However, there are no Confirmed reports, but it is theoretically possible. However since most people take their laptops onboard and since these scanners are for checked luggage only, the reporting would be low, since you are more likely to have your luggage stolen, then have the scanner affect your harddrive.
Just my research of about a year ago.
