View Full Version : C1 DSLR color correction

I'm totally new to C1 and was using BreezeBrowser, ZoomBrowser and shortly YarcPlus to convert RAW images from my D30 before.
I like C1 very much except for one thing: for some reason I have to do a lot of color correction before image looks acceptable. On the other hand, BB and ZB somehow manage to give a pretty good first approximation of the color balance, i.e. the shots look much closer to the original.
There must be some serious flaw in what I'm doing because everyone praises C1 so much. I mostly shoot in AWB, which could very well be the problem, but still how come the BB and ZB are so much better at reproducing what's been shot and C1 needs so much tweaking?

You need to post an example or two. I certainly don't do much colour correction with C1LE - play around with the colour temp maybe, but that's all.

Looks like I'm not the only one who thinks that BB gives a better first approximation:

I'll see if I can find storage to post some examples...

And here is more on yellow cast: exactly what I see. When watching thumbnails to appear the icons first show up in correct color, but then get adjusted by C1

Does C1 automatically know your Camreras specific profile based on the Exif from the RAW? COuld this be part of the problem?
I ask as I too am just now toying with C1 for the first time,. and it never asked/had a place for me to enter the 10D profile....
hmmmm.

Yes, C1 knows from the data in the RAW file that it's made with the 10D and uses the appropriate settings automatically.
The ICC profile for the 10D supplied with C1 describes the device-specific color space of the 10D. If you look at the folder C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\color (in Windows XP) you will see a number of profiles, "Canon EOS-10D Generic.icm" is C1's profile for the 10D. For some cameras (the 1D and 1Ds) several profiles are supplied; by selecting these somewhere in the preferences of C1 (when you have an 1D or 1Ds ofcourse...) you can change the way C1 converts colors from the RAW file to a useful color space on the computer.
I've always found it easy to get good colors out of my 10D RAW files with C1. Much better than what Canon's FVU produces. Unfortunately my trial period of C1 LE has expired now and I'm already missing it..... I guess I need to spend money on this expensive hobby *again*.....

I have found exactly the same problem. The solution is to change the monitor profile on C1 to sRGB and the images look very similar to breezebrowser etc.
