Hi All,

Along the lines of the Vista, X-Drive etc. is one from Epson if you haven't already seen it:

Epson Photo PC P-1000 (http://www.epson.co.uk/sohoprod/imaging/camera/photopcp1000/)

Nice 640x480 screen, nice looking device but only USB 1.1 and only views JPGs (at the moment). But it is CF ready and can do some other useful things.

Might be worth a look for those in the market for such a device.

Cheers

Ian

Hmmm...
An interesting idea, nonetheless. I wonder if 10GB onboard memory will be enough when shooting RAW? I guess it all depends on how long you plan to be shooting for. If you're on holiday and nowhere near a computer, this may not cut the mustard. I see you can get it for around £505.24, VAT inclusive, from www.microwarehouse.co.uk, the flashtrax drive goes for about the same and is 4x the size in hard drive space.

have you looked at the Archos Video, AV320? that is about the same price £479 VAT inc, or even better, Flashtrax 30GB @ £300, 40GB @ £370, and 80GB @ £500. All prices VAT inclusive. Source, www.warehousewxpress.com in Norwich, Norfolk, England. I see you can get the 80GB one and still have a fiver to spare for the price of the Epson one. The only difference is that the Flashtrax one has a 3.5 in screen vs a 3.8 in screen. Edge: Flashtrax, and I won't miss 0.3 inches.

Just my farthing (as opposed to 20 pence)...

Cheers from England,
Canuck

I have just started using the X drive, I have a 1D and two 1 gig microdrives. I also have a number of 256 and 512 k cards.I do not use the X drive very often and it works fine. A friend has a 10D and a number of 512 k cards. He uses a portable CD drive backup (700K) for each disk. This works fine as well but could be a minor problem with backing up 1 gig drives.
