To all those 300D users who have used/own a 10D ...
To put it in lay-man's terms, what will I not be able to do if I were to purchase the 300D over the 10D.
I'm not talking about specifications hear (i.e. different body etc.), I want to know what practicle things I will not be able to do with one over the other.
From my reading different people have confirmed that the 300D is essentially a 'dumbed down' version of the 10D -> so what are the features dumbed down, and what will they not let me do.
Thanks

Fotophreak,
Here's a website, and part of the review of the Digital Rebel:
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos300d/
and the bit comparing 10D vs 300D:
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos300d/page6.asp towards bottom, the chart should tell all. You might want to read the entire review, as will as the one for the 10D:
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Canon/canon_eos10d.asp and there are others like www.dcresource.com and others that have eluded me for now. It might pay to hit a search engine and look for "digital camera reviews" and go that way. That's what I did and decided on the 10D, but the 300D was still a long ways from coming out. I ordered the 10D in March and got it the end of April, 03, about a month later. This ought to get you started. I'll be around if you have any questions, just not until much later today...it's going on 0215 here in England.
Cheers from England,
Canuck

Thanks Canuck,
I had actually read the review, and it was what I was referring to when saying didn't just want the specification differences between the two cameras.
What I was actually hoping for was that one of you might be able to shed some light, being new to the DSLR & keen to learn from those more experienced who kindly give their time/advice on this site, on what not being able to use the AF mode in many of the 'creative' settings on the camera?
What will this stop me from doing? What photos won't I be able to take?
As not fully understanding what its limitations are, making a decision (see my other post URGENT: ... http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=20593) as to which camera to choose between the 300D & the 10D is almost impossible.
Thanks

While I still have a lot to learn, I am making money with photography. I have the 300D and found it's only limitations to be the absence of a true spot meter (the 10D doesn't have one either) and no flash compensation. Oh, I might add that it doesn't have a PC chord attachment so you will have to come up with other ways for lighting. Other than that it is a great camera, you should be able to take whatever photos you need. I have taken photos that will be in HotRod Magazine with this camera. Also, I have a few weddings coming up and you can bet that the 300D will be with me...Dean

Fotophreak,
I almost never use Auto Focus, I just don't like it! It won't really stop you from anything. I have taken many great pics of planes flying past me at near the speed of sound. It takes some getting used to, but it also lets you decide what is in and out of focus. That can also be controlled by the aperature. I like shooting full manual, I set everything from shutter speed, aperature, ISO effective, focus and focal distance. Maybe I'm too much of a control freak? The Elan IIE let me down a number of times, so I started shooting 100% "M" and this was a revelation. I was having fun shooting film. I have to admit, initailly, I wasn't really bothered about digital, even thru the release of the D60. Then came the 10D and I figured I might as well give it a go. Then again getting back to the 10D I have, I have yet to find out how the creative modes perform. I haven't the vaguest idea. Again, I shoot "M" all the way.
Give it a go, and like whooting RAW vs JPEG, you may find you like shooting "M" only better than the creative zone. I have. I'm up to hear what others have to say.
The main advantage, is like when shooting say, the moon for example. You have to set it to well below the -2 setting and can only do that in manual mode, to my knowledge. If I'm not mistaken, when I did the moon shot that is posted on this forum, it was about -5 if you count it all up.

At least on the 300D (Digital Rebel) manual focus is not as easy as it should be, owing to the plain ground glass viewfinder screen. I miss the split collar focusing prism in my Olympus OM film camera.
I don't believe the 10D has replaceable focus screens, either, but I could be mistaken.
