I took this on a local beach last winter, the bird allowed a close approach and the light was good.
It is one of my first shots with a DSLR 350D + Sigma 170-500mm lens hand held, mainly digiscoped before this.
While i still like it i have seen what can be achieved in these forums, so much to know so little time to learn.:) .

He's very cute! Nice composition, good focus! Have you thought about darkening him a little?
Welcome!

Great little subject here, nice details, nice composition, maybe try neat image or similar program to reduce the background noise.Well done.

Excellent shot of this juvenile Snow Bunting. It's not easy to get a good shot of a Snow Bunting so you did very well. :-)

I like that shot a lot, very nice. A beautiful bird that I hardly see, and never got a photo of. I like the moss covered wall it's on too.

The Snow Bunting is a beautiful bird with it's good quality plumage and shape, nice shot Cannylad, it's a rare find to get these captured, and you are more likely to stumble across one by accident. Which I did in the highlands of Scotland in a supermarket car-park.
Good detail and pose , well done.

Thanks everyone for your comments, sadly i lost the original image along with a load of others in a computer glitch so this is a third or forth generation copy .
Hope to get one in full plumage one day. Going too a photography club this week and see if i can learn a bit about this fascinating and complex hobby.
regards brian.

Nice shot. It is often the case that birds which have migrated a long way are totally knackered when they arrive and you can get quite close to them before the make the effort to fly off.

Well done on capturing a quite nice image. I too like everyone else quite like it, though not tack sharp it is still well detailed and exposed nicely. As Trevor said maybe run it trough a noise reduction program to clean it up a little also. Good stuff, a pleasing capture that most would be quite happy with.

Good shot.. I'll agree with Sindri, they are very hard to photograph. Most of the time all I see is a flock suddenly take off in the distance as I approach :)
These are true snow birds where I live. You mostly see them in the winter when there is lots of snow on the ground.

Hi Cannylad - that's the wall at Blyth harbour, isn't it?
;)
I've got some very similar shots (taken on a Nikon D70 before I joined the Canon camp) from last winter too - eg: http://kazemisu.me.uk/birdimages/index.php?id=139 and http://kazemisu.me.uk/birdimages/index.php?id=143 but it looks like you had better light.
Small world...
