So as the title states, I've been looking at the Sigma 28-70mm f2.8 EX DG lens and I found one for 125 dollars with the hood included. It's in pretty good condition and the seller rarely ever uses it.
For those of you who own this lens, how do you feel about it? Do you like it? Is it worth the 125? I would like to use it as a walk-around lens; and i take pictures of my family from time to time so i'm looking for decent bokeh as well.
Thanks in advance for your assistance!

That's a ridiculously low price for this lens, especially if it's the newer DG version. I'd jump all over it.

Is this the current version, constant aperture lens selling for $329 at B&H? If so, and there's nothing wrong with it, I'd jump on that deal.

Man, I was getting all ready to get a real deal of a lens, then I read the thread and see it is just that you found one for yourself, not all of us.

If it's the variable aperture selling for $129 - no.

For $125, I would probably get it but you should know its limitations. I have the lens in question, and I don't use it often (maybe I have a bad copy--flares, slow focusing, so-so color and contrast). I most of the time have to post-process my pictures for them to look decent. But just my .02....

Actual pictures of this lens shows that it is the constant aperature version of f2.8. I just don't know if it is the most current version(?). He says he bought it in June of 2005.

Doesn't look like the photo on B&H. The ring around the firont glass specifies EX DG on the $329 model in the B&H photo

It also specifies a 67mm filter size on the current model, not 77 mm. I think this may not be the current model, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's not a good lens. I'm not familiar with this one.

This is the older, non DG model. The new DG model has a 67mm front thread while the older one has the 77mm front thread. You also might consider that it might not work on your current body. I'd only get it if there is a return policy of 7 days or so for you to try out.

He must have made a mistake in his ad or something i guess. Are the non DG versions bad? I was looking for a fairly fast walk around lens.

Please note fstopjojo's admonition that it might not work, as is, with your camera. Older Sigmas sometimes need to be "re-chipped" in order to communicate with newer cameras. Do you know what kind of camera the current owner is using it with?

He's using a digital Rebel.
