Took this on the way home today. I think a little more space above the lion would look better.

Doesn't do a lot for me. What's the subject: the lion, the woman or is there some interaction between the two?
Picture is also tilted, which is easy to correct.

Yeah, a good shot, but it's the kind that I dislike. Now, I'll try to explain that confusing statement. The world is full of art pieces like this and some people call it art and then write 2000 word columns about philosophical/historical meaning and other aspects regarding a certain piece of work, say, a photo. To me, when I look at it it should say something, if it doesn't it's either totaly sucks or is just looking good, like a blonde with big tits in a Ferrari, but I'd 'WOW!!!' only a brunette with medium tits, I.Q. juust below mine and a million dollars in the bank - good looking, smart, rich. A superb photo has it all.
No offense, just crudely kidding...;)

Karusel,
Thanks for that, I was wondering how I was going to work off all the thanksgiving calories, but since you made me fall on the floor in tears with your explanation of the perfect photo, I have cryed off 10lbs laughing my ass off.
So perfectly put!
No disrespect to your post Motoyen,

I like the shot - I've had a look a few times and for me, it's good to come back to. I think your B&W is just right but, think it would improve if there was a bit more detail in the woman's black coat. I like the lines of the step, the imposing building and the thoughtful pose of the subject. I also think that you are right about the lion as you seem to intend some interplay between it and the woman i.e. they're looking in about the same direction and the lion almost seems to be looking at the woman... However, it does lack something to move it from good to special - don't know what it is though!
Anyway, I wish I could do as well with B&W as that!

Oh, and I find the plaque to the woman's right a bit distracting especially as it's a bit burned out. Might help to clone it out? just a thought.

I think that the problem is that there are two subjects in this image -- and both are caught in poor light and in somewhat static and cold , concrete poses.
I would suggest that the woman is the stronger element here. However, her coat is underexposed and fails to show the smart collar, tailoring et al that would make her seem more chic against these lifeless steps.
All of that under better lighting would then leave us with a lovely looking woman, who has "something" on her mind. The cigarette fits a bit. One leaves the scene wishing that this lady would/could kick the habit.
