Hi all,

(Before anyone sends me to the post on 11/24, please see that the questions are different. It is mostly about the adapter. I intend to buy Hoya or Tiffen filters.)

Quick question. I just got a G3 and are looking to get UV and polarizing filters. I am assuming that I need a lens adapter on the G3 in order to screw my filters on them, is this correct? Will a 52mm lens adapter do? This will have a 58 mm threads on the end? Am i even using the correct term?

I am not to the point that I will be attaching any other lens to the camera, just UV to protect the original lens and a polarizer (I am finding that the consensus is linear as opposed to circular).

Also is it necessary to purchase a GND filter in addition to the polarizer?

I recently bought my adapter from Lensmate. They make both a 52mm and 58mm adapter which I feel is much better made (metal vs. plastic) that matches the body color of the G3 perfectly. The fact that the adapter is metal not plastic was important to me for appearance but more importantly because the screw-in filter threads will be less prone to accidental stripping. Lensmate also has a wide range of optional add-on lenses at reasonable prices too. This is worth checking out if you are in the market for a wide angle or telephoto adapter.

I bought the 52mm adapter for my G3. It arrived within a couple days here in Seattle. I also got a couple of 52mm filters that meet my needs. I bought the Hoya Moose filter which combined the 81a & circular polarizer and the Hoya 52mm 81a simply for everday protection. I have been happy with the results so far.

Hope my info is helpful to you.
