View Full Version : Will I regret buying the Metz 60CT-4???

Hi all,

I'm almost sure I want to buy myself the Metz 60CT-4 for all my wedding and event work (currently use the Metz 54MZ-3, and this would go on my second camera body).

The Metz 60CT-4 would be used on the EOS 10D, and then on any new digital model that Canon might bring out next year. I would mainly be buying it for its Auto-thyristor mode, for those weddings and functions that people just have to have at night! :p During the day, I'd probably just end up using the 54MZ-3 in E-TTL mode for fill flash, rather than dialing the compensation with the 60CT-4.

I'm all for the 60CT-4 for the power, the even light distribution, and the overall quality of light (I *love* Metz flashes!). The cons would be the weight and the weight, and, well, mostly the weight. Also, the weight would be a major pain in the neck! :D

So, if anyone here has good or bad experiences with the Metz 60CT-4, I'd like to hear them! Also, what is the trigger voltage on these things?

Why not measure it and be sure?

... 'cause I haven't got one yet? :)

I'd be more inclined to get a 45 series Metz flash than a 60. I own a 45-CL4 and two CT-1's.

For the 45's the advantages are that you can use third party power supplies like a Quantum, the ni-cad internal Metz pak, or AA NiMH/ni-cad batteries. My understanding is that the 60 will only run of the large external Metz battery that's specific to the 60 series.

The 45's are smaller and have far and away enough power for weddings. The 45's are also much more common than 60's and third party products like Sto-fen diffusers will be more readily available. Even Metz products like the wide angle diffusers are more likely to be "in stock" for the 45 than the 60.

Rudi, just do it.
The 60CT4 is one hell of a flash. I have been using one for weddings for the last 8-9 years - simply brilliant!.
They are not too powerful and the battery pack allows almost instant recycle times. I repeat "just do it".
