My understanding is that they are not interchangeable.

You pay extra for BigEd because it doesn't say what it is in bright white writing on the front.

Well, that is the only real difference I can see cosmetically. :)

Cheers

The later one has a note on it that it says it "Accepts BP-511 Batteries ONLY!" I have one 511 and one 512...they both work in my 10D, but I guess one is just slightly squarer...hmmm....interesting.

toddb, I believe the question is regarding the grip itself and not the battery.

I'm interested in finding out too.

If they were interchangable it is beyond me why anyone would spend an extra $50+ on the 10D grip. Anyways, as far as I am aware they are not interchangable as the footprint of each camera is different.
It would make poor marketing sense for canon (who are not known for having bad marketing sense) to release a camera that uses the same grip as the 10D/D60/D30 then sell a grip for less money.

The 10D and the 300D have different dimensions so the BG-ED3 won't fit on the 300D. According to the 300D manual, the only BG option for it is the BG-E1.

BTW, since the BG-ED3 has no external identification markings visible when attached to a camera, how did you determine that it was a BG-ED3 short of someone telling you that that's what he had on? Just curious. :)

They should have made a silver grip on the Rebel so that y'all could make fun of it.

I am sure it has to do with the size of the two cameras. I did get the BG-E1 for my 300D and highly recommend it. It not only adds more battery life but also makes it heavier and more stable, I have less problems with camera shake. Also It causes my camera to be more ballanced when using a bigger lens than the kit lens. My Tamron 28-75 f2.8 lens used to cause my camera to tip forward when it is strapped around my neck. Not anymore. I might add that it also gives the camera a more pro look which is important to me because I am not shooting for free...Dean

Hmm. For instructions on how to paint your DRebel black, just refer to Belmondo's posts :)

Having studied Marketing, I can easily answer that question:

The Grip for the 300D has direct manufacturing costs in china of $ 14,99

Compared to that, the Grip for the 10D is 20 % more expensive in manufacture at $17,99 because of the different finish....

Hence the difference in the final retail price :)

Andy

Actually, Andy, you're wrong! The reason for the $60.00 difference is because they skimped on the silver paint. If they had gone through with their original design, the silver BG-E1 would cost the same as the BG-ED3. :D

But I'm kind of glad they opted out of the silver paint. When I get me a 300D in the near future (barring a "really gotta have" camera being announced at PMA 2004) to supplement my 10D I'd prefer a black grip for it rather than a silver one. :D :D

LOL, I would have preferred the camera to be black...Dean
