Hi all,
I'm just getting the hang of some of Photoshop's Filters and Effects and thought this image lent itself to Posterization. Do you think it works?

Here's the original. It was rather noisy and soft (at ISO 800).

I think it adds an interesting element to the image. It all depends on what the image will be used for. I like to play around with effects to create digital images from photos..... but it's not everyone's cup o' tea. If you like it... stick with it ;)

It is not my cup of tea, but it looks OK. I think your image would be better if you cropped the green foliage at the bottom of the image. Make a square frame. Just my thoughts. :)

I hate this effect.
BUT YES IT WORKS!!!
I really like the shot. You have made me think twice about this effect. Nice one :)

Thanks for the feedback guys. I must admit, posterization is undoubtedly a pixel assassin, and I never liked it much, but for images affected by noise, it seems to work.
Rhinotherunt. Thanks for the suggestion. I tried a square format crop, but I felt it threw the composition out-of-whack somehow.
It all depends on what the image will be used for. Thanks for your comments. I hadn't thought about what to use it for! I was just experimenting with effects. But now that you mention it, I might take it back to the restaurant and see if they want to use it...for a free meal maybe! :-D

No worries! ;) Sometimes the crop works... sometimes not...

I like it, can be used in advertising or something. Good job.

That effect makes the shot look cheap, IMHO. But either way - the bottom 1/3 almost 1/2 needs to be cut off because it'd dark and adds nothing to the shot - it actually drags the impression of the images negatively.

I think it looks good. How did you do it?

Thanks for that.
In Photoshop CS2, I used Filter>Artistic>Poster Edges with a setting of 2/1/3 (or thereabouts). It seems to help the final product by oversharpening and oversaturating the original.:)

While I respect your critique, I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "cheap"??? Perhaps you could elaborate a bit more to help me out.
If you mean it looks like a "cheap picture", I showed it to the restaurant and they paid me enough for the photo+rights to help buy the 100-400 Canon Zoom I've been looking at :-D

I like it, but I'd have put more of a posterization effect to lose a bit more detail on the leaves (I'd have aimed to them having one shape per leaf).
Thumbs up from me!

In both the composition is too busy and the posterization doesn't make it better... Try filling the shot with flowers and maybe some green at the bottom. The buildings and sign at the back sitract.
