Hi,
I own my a70 for the past 6 months, now I having 2 problems with my a70! I hope somebody can help, cause I think this kinda problem is rare!
Problem 1,

This is hard for me to explained here, anyway it's about the pictures taken with my a70 ( CHECK out the photos on my gallery, you'll understand what I try to said!)! There's once when i took the picture, and there's a lot of horizontal lines on the photos taken! Someting like the television scanlines! Every photo taken have the lines on it! Therefore, I try reset my camera setting to default setting then try to take some photos, i was happy though the problems is solved! But, after a while, the problem still exist, jus after some shot, there are some photos with the horizontal lines on it (1 or 2 photos, not all)! Does anyone have this problem? I was thinking about the DiGIC processor problems? Maybe, you all can try to check on the photos posted on my site gallery:

Problem 2,

I think this concern about the CCD sensor or display board on the A70! When the camera was turned on (any modes), sometimes the lcd screen turned PURPLE color! I dun have any idea what it it, but I din touch anything! But after I turned it off and on again, the lcd screen returned normal again! Did anyone have any idea what's going wrong with my a70?

I was thinking of sending the A70 to Canon Service center while it still under warranty!

Problem 1
Doesn't look good does it!
I have seen something similar before with my A70 but it was something up with the CF card. A re-format sorted it. I can't recall the details. So, IMHO and if I were you, I would first remove all (including the date) batteries from the camera and leave it for 24 hours. Meanwhile, I would use my PC and card reader to do a full diagnostic check on the CF card. Then, if that passed the tests, 24 hours later I would put the card back in the camera, put the little battery back in, put a full set of freshly charged NiMH batteries in and power up. I would set the date and time and then format the card and take a picture. If all well, great. If not I would call CANON ASAP!!!!!

Problem 2
I've never seen anything like you describe. So I can't really help. Why not call CANON and see what they say (not a lot probably!).

Best of luck.

stduc,
problem 1 doesnt look good at all! not at all! I had tried to format the CF card too using my card reader! But the problem still exist! The problem exist refer to some picture will have those horizontal lines, but most of the photos are normal, maybe can say out of 150 pics taken, juz 2 or 3 have this problem! I have a question, what program do u use and how to diagnos the CF card?

About the 2nd problem, i think the best way still send it to Canon!

Anyway thanks for the advice!

Did you try another card (the 16 meg card) or use the camera via remote and use the computer memory?

If you can get the camera to make the lines while offloading the pictures to the computer (remote capture) than it has nothing to do with the card. If on the other had if after a large wack, it still has not done any, then it looks like the card. (set up remote capture as intervelometer and let it be until batteries die.)

Problem too. Might be a loose connection or interference. Does the purple turn up on pictures?

I use a card reader. In 'My Computer' I right click on the card and select 'properties', then 'tools' then 'check now' and take all options. I always format the card in the camera though.

Unfortunately I fear you are right. Have you spoken to them? If so, what did they say? I'm afraid I don't have a very high opinion of their support staff. When my A20 went wrong all they could advise was 'send it in, minimum charge is 120 quid'! Or something like that!!! (It was off guarantee)

From other posts here and on another forum about purple lines on this camera, this appears to be one of the ways the A70 can fail. (Another common failure of the lens extension drive train binding up).

Back to Canon - and you're fortunate that it's still under warranty! I love my A70 but I purchased an extended warranty for it for just these reasons.

I only had the problem for a short - mainly the erratic bands across the pics. I beleive it sorted itself out when I switched batteries. My impression was that I was using bad batteries or that they were not correctly charged.

I'm having horizontal line problems with my A85, and canon wants me to pay them 180$ to fix it... and it is still under warranty... what the hell???
