I'm interested in purchasing a entry level studio lighting kit. Since I'm only a beginner I do not want to spend an arm and two legs on the kit. Ebay is usually a reliable source for finding moderately priced equipment. A quick search turned up these two options:

What do you guys think?

I'm also interested in some entry level lighting. Does anyone have experience in the above?

I have seen these things in local camera shops.
Not very powerful and no way to adjust the output.

With your RebelXT you'll need a hotshoe-PC adapter to trigger them.

I suppose for single portraits you could make them work, but they wouldn't be very versatile.

Another thing about the ebay ad that troubles me:The Master strobe has a guide number of 55 (Main light) and the slave strobe 42 (Fill light). It is not specified whether these guide numbers are in meters or feet. My guess is feet.
