I'm not sure what species this is -normally I can't shoot them because they are very skittish and always in the air. But I think that it was a newborn, or it somehow got its wings wet cause it wasn't flying very well and let me get close -so close that when I went to move it to an area that had less wind it climbed onto my finger...

Funny how difficult it is to take a life size shot of something that you are holding onto -this is the best I could do:

I'm gonna end this post with an Ansel Adams quote that I ripped out of someone's signature -I think it fits the day...

Sometimes I do get to places just when God's ready to have somebody click the shutter.

Excellent capture and nice colours.
Sometimes wonder whether the variable skittishness of some bugs might depend on whether they have mated and are getting old.

Mating definitely changes their attitude -I can shoot Black Tailed Skimmers as long as they are making the dragon with eight wings... :)

Very nice shots, I can't believe that it just climbed onto your fingers!!! Love the colours, and it's super sharp.

It kinda stunned me to even get close to it -normally these guys are airborne all the time...

Tentatively unidentified as a Male Lesser Emperor Dragonfly (Anax parthenope). It has the male coloring and tail appendage -but your call was pretty darn good for just seeing the front of the critter!!!
