Oh wow, imagine my shock and surprise when I logged into my Order Status page a few moments ago - and instead of the "some items......", I got: ORDER SHIPPED, US AIRBORNE!!
It was shipped from Ingram Micro in TX on Tuesday. I have a tracking number - so wow - I may actually get it real soon! I live in Arizona - so there is hope I'll have it by Friday!!!!!!
Of course, there is a part of me that won't truly believe it until I hold it in my hot little hand....
For info - I ordered early on 9/23, got the 10% shipping, and did have a coupon too.
Here's hoping Santa will come through for the rest of those who ordered!
And I'll post when I really have it in my hands!!

Holly

I give up. What is a Dell lens?
Is it anything like the lenses made by Canon?

Ha ha....
This is the Canon 70-200 L IS lens that Dell put on sale oh so briefly and that has been such a bone of contention for the last few months.....

Congratulations!
I got a call today from Dell's automated system telling me that my order should ship on or before Januray 7. If, however I didn't call them back in a certain period of time, the order would be canceled.
I called the number they left and sat on hold for twenty minutes listening to someone tell me my call would be taken by the next available agent. Eventually, another message came on saying my call was being forwarded to an automated voice messaging system. That mailbox, I was then told, was full.....I should disconnect or try another extension. After going through the same drill two more times, I finally started dialing numbers at random and got through to someone at Dell who asked if my emergency was fire or medical. I was pleased to answer that it was much more serious than either fire or medial. Once they understood the gravity of the situation, they transferred me to customer service who confirmed that my order was still in place, and that it could ship within 8 days, although there was no way to be sure. I told them January 7 would be fine.

Yes, I did! I got it from B&H. I've had it for about two weeks now. I went out and got the 28-135 IS lens, and now my 70-200 L IS is on it's way. Next...the 40-70L.....

According to the Dell web site, my order placed on 9/25 also shipped on Tuesday. It is scheduled to arrive on 12/2.
Whoohoo! It will be a good 10D Christmas after all (even though I'm now too broke to buy presents for anyone else ;) ).

Congrats to all who are getting the best of the big corporation for a change! You will all enjoy that lens. I got one a little while back and have not quit asking myself what took me so long...

Did you mean 24-70? If so, you'll love that as much (if not more) than the 70-200. It's an imensely useful focal range, and the glass is fantastic!

For a few days Dell had the 70-200 IS lens on it's site for the price of non-IS. It appears to be a pricing mistake which they honored. See Sketcher's good thread (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=18854) for some history on the scoop. There are also other threads that cropped up on many boards around late September.

The way I've heard the story (proabably elsewhere in this forum -- perhaps in Sketcher's thread) is that the mistake was made by Canon, and they are the ones having to bite the bullet on this one. My Dell sales rep more or less confirmed this, but I'm still a little skeptical based on their (Dell's) unwillingness to make a clear, definitive statement to all of us who have the lens on order. You can almost pick whichever story you like and hang your hat on it.
As time goes by, it appears more and more likely that we actually might get them, so I'm happy if that turns out to be the case. If not, life will go on.

Tom, Tom, Tom...You actually believe what a Dell Rep tells you? Shame on you man! Of course they'll say something like that. I highly doubt the pricing snafu is Canon's fault. Especially since Dell is notorious for goof-ups like this.
