Need some help. I noticed that my brand new Hoya Pro 1 UV-0 (not extra thin) filter had a couple of small smudges on it. I used my Lens Pen on it and it only seemed to get worse. After that I put some lens solution and tried to clean it with some lens paper. I can't seem to get it clean. It sort of has an oily feeling to it. I know I can return it Monday but I was hoping someone had some ideas.

I had a three year old "attack" me with an ice cream cone once. Most of the goo landed on the filter - one more reason to use one I suppose. I can live with dirt and I can live with grime, but I can't STAND sticky.

I took the filter off of the camera and washed it off in warm water with a little dish detergent. We have a bunch of old (well used and needless to say, well washed) cloth diapers which I use for lens cleaning, and in this case lens drying. It all worked great.

Dave--just tried that but it didn't work. I can still see some swirls of blue or purple in the glass of the filter. Thanks anyway it was worth a try.

Eclipse cleaner will get it, and it will dry smudge free!

I've tried everything mentioned here but it's still streaky. I think it might be in the coating, not sure.

If the smudges don't show up on your photos, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Yeah, I know but it's a brand spanking new lens and high end filter and I guess I'm just anal. :-)

I've never had a filter smudge that would not yield to one drop of Windex.
