I took my first shots with the 70-200 4.0L.

I have not had a chance to process my first shots with this lens yet, but very impressed with the focus speed and how quiet it is.

I have one question. I know with most lenses you are not suppose to turn the focus while still in AF. It feels altogether different with this lens. Will it hurt the lens if you turn before switching to mf?

No, you won't "hurt the lens" by focusing manually while in AF. This lens has Canon's USM with FTM (full time manual), so it's precisely for fine-tuning manually while in after locking AF. So by all means...turn away.

P.S.: You're gonna' love this lens.

this is a great lense but I wish it's just a tad faster. Took the lense with me to my friends wedding and now realizing most of the shots some what blurry, even with the flash.

This is a great lens. Wait until you get it outside on the track for motorsports or other outdiir events. Just remember, keep the shutter speed up around 200 to reduce blur with this lens.

I reckon this lens is the hidden jewel in Canon's L crown - such an amazing lens, and such a good price for it. i hope that the new IS version does not mean they are going to stop making this one. Mine is a total keeper.

What iso was you using? it should not be that bad. I have used mine on overcast days at iso 200 and 400 and got very nice sharp shots hand held without any problems.

Infact this weekend I just shot around 500+ images at an event and I would say 10-15 images are duff.

ISO 1600. this is a indoor wedding with crappy light. i guess i just gotta master my external flash. A lot of my pictures just didn't come out as well as i like.

Yeah you can focus away with out hurting the lens. I do this when I want to take a picture of say a crab apple but the focus wants to focus behind so just tuning it to the apple lets the lens know what I want.

Great choice on lens. Next Telephoto on your list should be the 300mm f4 IS Prime lens. Will blow you away!

I'm really tempted by the both the IQ, cost, and weight/size of this lens. I keep asking myself if I NEED 2.8 (I have it at 100mm on my macro) because I like to keep expenses and weight down. This is a crackin' lens for sure, I'm jealous of all you guys expecting deliveries!

SHOWER?? You'll have the whole weekend to do stuff like that! ;)

$475 is a great price. I got tired of waiting for a great deal like that to show up in the buy and sell forum, so I went ahead and bought a brand new one from B&H.

If you have a speedlite flash, try this:

Set the camera to f5.6 at 80 (or 60th), iso 200 or 400 and rattle of a few test shots.

This works foe me indoors, you mat need to pre flash in some situations. Also try a omnibounce, again that works well for me
