What kind of lizard is this?? I'm thinking a kind of iguana..There is one that's a pet at a restaurant here in town.. It's kind of friendly and hangs out with a cat!!

Heh...maybe I'm in too tight with the wide angle? The "catchlight" is my hands around the lens, you can see it clearly in the full size.

It's a Brazilian Iguana, they had them at the resort and didn't bother anyone, and they were pretty friendly.

Those have no micro adjust what so ever. No prost processing at all either.
I have the older version of the 24-70 and I think I'm going to love this lens sooo much more. Seems way sharper than I ever got from the Sigma and the 7mm on the wider end is nice for me.

should have my copy by the end of the week.
ive been back and forth between this, the 28-75 or the sigma 24-70 for weeks now... the tamrons were the main contenders but i couldnt decide on focal range, i want a good 3 lens setup eventually (10/12-200/300mm) but with a limited toy budget and the UWA being last on the list it may be awhile till i can piece it all together. the 17-50 should help keep me content with the wide side for awhile...

That happens quite often to me too, and it gets annoying, I can never focus if there isn't plenty of light.

I hear that often about this lens and the tamron 28-75. It has never been my experience. I thought maybe I was crazy and got my lenses out one night in the living room with only a 60watt light burining off in a corner. I was able to focus on anything in the room without any hunting. And it was pretty dim in there. There has got to be something going on with all this "hunting" people complain about. I am not a technical person so I can't say whether it is a camera or lens issue or both. I only know that I don't have the problem.

The only way I have been able to focus in low light is if I choose an individual focus point, and make sure there is a huge difference in contrast at that point. If I try to focus on say, the body of a car in low light it will just keep hunting. I would need the focus point to be partially on/off the car, and even then it's spotty at best.

I always used single point focus as well, but with that you need the point to be on a really high contrast area for it to focus correctly.

i just hit up the test chart with tripod/mirror-lockup etc, seems to be spot-on. must have been the bad lighting... im glad, ive been anxiously awaiting this lens and think i just had myself paranoid with all the threads about focus issues.

I've had mine for about 3 weeks now and the only time I get 'hunting' with it is in lighting conditions that I would also get the same issue with any other lens I might have on there.
I haven't verified this, so it's all conjecture at this point, but I feel like AF hunting would be an issue with the BODY rather than the lens when this issue comes up due to lower light/contrast situations. Since the Canon bodies, anyway, use a contrast detect AF system you're pretty much not going to GET a solid AF lock when you don't have enough light and contrast on the surface you're aiming at.
I know that when I was learning to play with metering that I found even in a fully lit environment, if I point the camera at a flat, white or black surface, I couldn't get AF to lock on. Again, it didn't matter which lens I was using.
Other than not being quite the 'proper' range for me that I was expecting (buyer error), I really like this lens and find it performs great so far.
The red focus indicator will also blink red to confirm focus for you if you switch to manual and set it that way; which I didn't know until last night.

I see what you mean. Sounds like you have to focus on an edge or line, something distinct.
I just walked down the hallway with my 50D and lens. It's night time, light is in the room I just left. No light source here, it's all coming from behind me. It focuses perfectly using the center point.
I feel for you. It's frustrating when you get a wide aperture lens just to take pictures in low light and it won't focus correctly. And I have no idea why my lens does it and yours doesn't. I had the much praised 50 1.8 lens for a very short time and got rid of it because I couldn't get it to focus indoors without a lot of light. That was what I bought it for.
I am wondering about QC at Tamron and Sigma. It seems that these issues occur too often.

how many people who complain about AF performance in low light have ever attempted it manually? ;)
even in the best case scenarios, (old school no-af manual everything camera bodies, like nikon f2 for example) with split prism focusing screens, it is not easy.
never mind a dim, tiny viewfinder as is found in modern crop dlsrs.
if you really want to nail AF in darkness, get an st-e2.

david, first of all, and most importantly, find a good location that has a bright window.
second, diffuse the light somewhat. could be as simple as pulling down a translucent white shade.
this will provide a soft, even light for your subject. unless you shoot at the "golden hours" of sunrise or sunset you'll have nice white 5500k light.
longer lenses can help decrease the barrel distortion, but you may run out of room.
on zooms there is an optimal focal length that tends to minimize barrel/pincushion distortion. on this tammy the change from barrel (on the wide end) and pincushion (on the long end) seems to be around 24mm. you can compensate with your post processing using some specialized software, but as usual it's better to get it "square" right away.
also zoom lenses will show different vignetting wrt focal length. usually it gets better as you go longer. around 35mm the tammy gets very good in that respect. you can compensate with your post processing but again it's better to have it right from the camera (as pushing up exposure in post invariably makes noise worse).
so, using this lens, a good focal length would be between 24 and 35mm.
shoot at the optimal aperture for sharpness. i believe it was established earlier in this thread that f/5.6 or so on this tammy is the sweet spot for sharpness.
obviously use the lowest ISO you can.
shutter only needs to be as quick as eliminating shake. consider a tripod, though given a nice bright day with plenty of light, a quick shutter is guaranteed anyway.
finally, make sure your lens axis is directly orthagonal to the object frame plane to avoid keystoning.

thanks ,
those were drawn from photos , but i upscaled them alot.....Arnold is 18x24" and is in my wieght room..the wine glass is 14x17" hanging in my dining room..
my advice would be to practice keeping your shading as smooth and seamless as possible to get a photorealistic look..learn the circulism technique to get real looking skin.
the pictures do these drawings absolutely zero justice..im trying to learn to photograph them the way they appear in person. but thats easier said than done im learning:(

You have some real talent there. That is coming from a guy who was a graphic design major for about 3 months. My biggest suggestion would be to learn how to set a custom white balance. You can use your camera manual, search online, or on this forum for steps to do that. This will get rid of that yellow cast youre getting on your work. Keep up the great art.

Great shots ride5000!
I've had this lens for about 2 weeks - mine seems to front focus a little bit, but I'm doing manual focus most of the time (when I can actually use the viewfinder). Overall I'm happy with it - though it does have some unusual qualities about it. My copy is very contrasty, it seems to have CA problems at 17mm and a few other things - other than the CA the qualities seem to add, not detract from my shots...

?? I don't really understand the question. Sorry!! I think you're asking how I got the exposure I did... It's just a balance of flash and ambient light. I under-exposed the background slightly, but I had a flash hitting the subject.
