This might be a stupid question but is there a setting on the digital rebel for shooting black and white?Im thinking of getting one and all the write up's that i read don't mention it.

There is no way to shoot a B&W image in the Digital Rebel. However, if you shoot any normal color image, you can strip all of the color values out in any image editor program.

Use a PS plug-in: Convert

No, but the nice thing about a Rebel is that it takes B&W flash cards

That assumes that Photoshop is the image editor.

Darn! I wish Canon had built that feature into the 10D as well. First it was the EF-S lens exclusively for the 300D, and now the B&W compact flash. What's the next future feature I'm going to miss out on with my "old" 10D? :(

This has been kicked around a few times in the past. Here's one thread:

It's incredibly easy to do, but there are more ways than one do it, and you will get decidedly different results. Best thing is to play around with it.

Good luck.

If it isn't, get PS Limited Edition, for

A better way to get B&W out of color using PS7 or CS is to
1. Convert to grayscale
2. Desaturate color
3. Use the channel mixer
a. Click monochrome
b. red = 70
c. blue = 15
d. green = 15
or what ever you like best in order to get the contrast you wish.
The third is the best way without stripping all data from the file & make sure you start with a dup copy....

If it ain't compatible with the 10D do you think there's a fat chance it'll be backwards compatible with the D60? Don't think so...unless you can get Canon to issue a firmware upgrade for it. :eyes

Time for another petition. It kinda sucks they only woth with the Rebel, but we always have the PS actions that do the same thing so it's really not that big a deal.

I read a thread over at dpreview that Lexar is actually working on a special Black and White CF card for the higher-end Canon cameras (10D, 1D, 1Ds) but no word on when they're coming out. Hard to say though if that's just some freaky rumor. You know how dpreview is.

It is backwards compatible, but only for shots taken with L-glass, and then only those that cost over $1,500.
