Has any one tried this lens? I am thinking about buying it, but one thing i have read is that the lens extends which is very odd for 2.8 "l" lens. How does this affect the hood and the flash with the hood protruding, as this is a very lager lens, it take a 77mm filter if that tell you anything, its a montser. Also Ahs anybody heard about the new 24-105 L lense, on when its comming out or anything? I would appreateia any help . And also. Has anyone had experience with the sto-fen omnibounce, i shoot a lot of concerts with celings that are about 25 feet high and its very dark in there what angle shold i hit. And also would this help to reduce red eye?
Lastly this lens is for a canon eos d30 I LOVE THIS CAMERA :) i do IDO. Thanks guys

Hi,

The lens does extend, but you can't go wrong with this lens, its sharp as a tack, well made, and heavy some

I am on my second of this lens.
It is a great lens and the extension does not go out far as a matter of fact after owning one for over 5 years I just noticed the extending the other day because I used it without the hood.

I also use the 70-200 2.8L and have the IS version coming next week.
I do recomend a few primes to go along
the 50 1.4 20 2.8 Or 16-35
85 1.8 is very sharp

I own this lens also and it is my "normal" lens for the D30. It covers a wonderful range on the D30 from just under 50mm to just over 100mm. It is perfect for portraits and normal perspective work.

The lens does extend as it is zoomed but the hood is fixed to the body and does not extend. With the hood in place you don't notice the extension. The lens and hood will not work well with the built in flash. It works great with the 550EZ.

The lens is good sized but it not so large as to be difficult to handle. The lens is very sharp and the photos have great contrast. I highly recommend this lens.

I also own the 16-35 F2.8L and the 70-200 F2.8L. They also are super lenses. (This is a lesson in how to quickly spend $5000 on lenses:>)

I have had this lens for some time now. The unique design keeps the hood stationary while the lens moves in and out. The result is that when the lens is at 70mm it is at its' shortest, and the hood is at its' deepest. When you go to the 28mm end of the range the lens is extended the most and only the end of the hood is utilized.
