Greetings Wedding Shooters!
I was just wondering, I know about the proofs and the stuff you give the bride and groom....what about the guests, friends and family who want to purchase through online gallery like Exposure manager and such, what pricing bracket do you guys go about, I am sure you dont sell them like $1/for a 4x6 or a 5x7. What are the price range most of you great shooters follow.
4x6,5x7,8x10's and so on.... Thanks

You'll find you sell more 4x6's than anything, simply because they're cheaper and people will copy them at Walmart to make enlargments. Price them high at around $5.00 each or don't sell them at all.

I use luster for everything. It frames better.

whats is lustre's finish?

Lustre is similar to matt but doesn't show fingerprints. If you use metalic at all, use it sparingly. I do maybe 3-4 photos metalic in a set of wedding prints.
I hate 6x4s, they're so ordinary, so I price them the same as 5x7s. I don't even like doing prints for the couple, what I can do with an album will blow away anything they can do with the prints. Don't even get me started on people just wanting CDs.

hey Tim: so Lustre's finish is not shinny? So on prints to be purhcased by visitors its best to keep metallic out? 6 x 4's are just so regular I guess, hahah people doing the CD thing....but I believe alot just give out the CD

It's kindof a semigloss in shine, but yet not. It has a crinkly look to it almost. Kind of hard to explain. 4x6 may be kind of "ordinary" but there's nothing exotic about a 5x7 either. I price my 4x6s less than my 5x7s because there's more ink and paper involved in the 5x7. I have nothing against printing any size or another. A print is a print.

I don't shoot that much, and I don't let people have the files.

to be fair, i have not really looked at them... they just wanted them... so i came home late night and batch converted from raw and batch ftp'd to my server. Surprisingly they all loved it... in a sense i shot as a favour as an available camera man, wherever and whenever on those two days.
I know what your saying, its pointless including everything but i will sort this out soon

Kinda like matt but a little different. I'd keep the metallic paper for a few photos that you want to have real impact. Color seems to work better than B&W.

I'm with Tim on this. But I do it a little differently. I sell the package with a small number of pictures on CD. But I also put a slideshow of an example photobook. The slide show starts with what I already have as standard showmanship and ends with a change to the bride and grooms pictures from their wedding. Idea is that they like the idea as they view it, then when they see examples of it with their pictures they usually fall in love with it. I'm just getting started with this so I may end where Tim is. But for now this is what I am doing.

Thanks! I've been shooting a lot more couples lately :) What's wrong with costco? I've had good experiences with the print quality as long as you don't use their autocorrect & print in luster.

I agree, I've never had a problem w/costco as long as you don't use their auto correct. But I guess we have all had our issues with one place or another.

I give my clients the address and # for a professional quality lab in town if they want to print up some images. I tell them that for just a few cents more than Target or Costco that they can have professional quality prints, or else they may be disappointed in the quality. So far, everyone seems to have followed my suggestion. I'm starting to rethink the images on CD thing. People really love it, but I might rework my packages.

You're missing a great opportunity to make even more money. Sell the prints yourself at a markup...

As I see it pretty much everywhere does decent prints, where we add value is in the processing, and the service. Basic color and brightness correction is assumed, but we can do more than that. We might do a nice B&W conversion for some images, or some other creative effect like softening, blurring, sharpening, merging (eg head transplants for blinks), that sort of thing. It also saves people a bunch of time if you have a good online ordering system available. They just chose their images, choose their sizes, and the images arrive on their doorstep hopefully before too long.

Nobody really answered his question and I am curious too. So far all we have is....
$5-6 for 5x7 and smaller
$? for >5x7 to 8x10
$? for >8x10 to 12x16
$? for >12x16 to 16x20
$? for >16x20 to 17x25
$ for an assembled album
Would anyone like to fill in the ?. I know this is like asking "What do you pay for art?", but lets gather some statistical info.

Wow... i almost forgot about this post.
4x6 - $2.50
5x7 - $9.00 (second most popular)
8x10 - $17.00 (most popular)
11x14 - $30.00
16x20 - $85.00
I once adjusted my prices per client and it got WAY to confusing so now I have everyone pay the same price for everything. My sales have actually gone up since making that decision.

Prices I charge won't help anyone because of my location. I charge the same for photos 5x7 or smaller, just because I really don't like 6x4s.

I know what you mean.... I can't stand them either and even tried to convince my wife to pull them from our list and she talked me out of it. I do make money on them but not like I do with other prints.

Since I priced mine the same as 5x7s I make a good profit on them. 6x4s don't take much processing work so the margin's good.

I price my 7x5 prints at £7 for weddings and £10 for portrait sittings. Always printed in lustre unless asked to do otherwise. I don`t offer 6x4s!

Slightly off-topic but I just had a look at your pricing brochure and I'm curious - how low res is your low res email option?
