if we all started recommending "Lensbaby" for any "what lens should I get" question?
Sorry...it's very late, and this struck me very funny ;)

Yeah, its annoying when people are just too lazy to do their own research.
If they ask which is better from a selection you know they have at least given it a try.

we'd get lots of 'my lens seems soft in the corners, should I send it back?' posts!

...or "my lens is broken, it won't stay straight" ;)
...or "AF doesn't work"

Another way to get as similar effect would be to get a Holga and scan the transparencies - you get a similar warped/ fuzzy effect. I wonder if you could fit a Holga with a digital back ;)

If all we did was reasearch then why even have this forum?
I would MUCH rather ask some advice then go and read biased research.
At least when I ask people, who you would think are on a furum to discuss things (other then to send people off to "do the research"), I will get some personal experience and opinions. Which I trust a whole lot more then "research". AND on top of that, most research does not address specific question I am SURE I will have...
So when people ask a question, and you find that the question takes up too much of your valuable time to spend answering it, why not just ignore the post and let someone who does not mind discussing something on a FORUM respond, rather then blow the poster off as some nebee idiot...?

well said that man. i think posting such things as 'search is your friend' a complete waste of time for both parties and probably make the person asking the question not want to ask another with the fear of upsetting the elite photogs who do not wish to share their infinite wisdom.

I assume you guys are referring to my post and if so I'm afraid you have misread the point.
Asking people here IS research.
I'm talking about the people who haven't even done a search here or anywhere and just come in with "I need a lens to shoot stuff"

I know exactly what you mean. I haven't been a member here for longer than a flea fart, but I a moderator on another forum. It is annoying when new folks do not use that search button. It makes the natives resltless.

Hey wait?
I thought the running inside joke is to recommend the 50mm f1.8 regardless of what the poster needs?
