I am very new to the photography world, and I have been reading this forum for approx a month. I have also purchased a 300D in the past two weeks. The following link is to the first photo that I am proud of. I know that it is not up to the quality of those that have been doing this for years, but I like it.

a little background of the location. It is an old practically abandoned cemetery in Northern New Jersey called Union Cemetery. I do not know when it was closed, but from what I have seen the youngest stone was from 1904. I spent about an hour there taking shots, and had a wonderful time discovering. If you would like to see more from this shoot just post, and I will upload some more.

And please be honest and tell what you think. This is the only way I will learn from my mistakes.

Thank you!

Kinger, you have established that your new camera is functioning properly. Now get some good nature shots if you want to interest me.

I think this is a very good attempt. There's some foreground interest in the composition, and I like the black & white. Keep practicing and seeking feedback. I would suggest you post photos for feedback in the "Critique" section of this forum.

Picture is a bit flat, not enough contrast; foreground/background don't stand out from each other. Eye is not drawn to anything. B&W or color, artistic effect would be the same.

Not a bad first attempt, though. Keep trying, but a better forum would be Critique.

Re-shoot on a foggy day. Find a point of interest. I find myself trying to figure out what I'm supposed to be looking at. How did you process this into B&W? There are so much better ways than just removing the color.

With that being said, I see definite potential here. Good first shot(s).
