In the first the crop is high and left as though you were trying to keep an AF point on something. It is also a bit soft ... I would urge that you use ISO1600 which a 30D should easily handle well. The second image would be improved if you had lowered the lens to reduce the flare ... always shoot with lens hoods on and very clean filters or no filter. This image is also soft but I can't tell if it is out of focus, camera shake or lack of sharpening. In general I shoot with Av set to wide open with ISO1600 and then back down the ISO and then the aperature after checking histograms and I think this is what you need to do.

Thank you, Dwight,

You are right about the framing of the first pic. I was avoiding a seam in railing glass immediately to the right . The light sensor was calling for either 1/10 or 1/60th, depending where I pointed the Evaluative metering points. I actually shot the string band photo through the Railing Glass from the sky box.

The Piano scene was an attempt to keep the player and the back up vocalists in the frame and focused at only 1/13. It was the very 1st time using mine IS lens. Again, you are correct. I had no hood on at the moment and I was also shooting upward.

I now own a 50mm 1.4 lens, to help with exposure and will apply the ISO modifications religiously and vigorously...

It can only get better from here...

Thanks again,

John
