does the arms up in these lowkey photos work for any one else or does it take away from the subject (baby bump). also feedback on face lighting would be great. Any like or dislikes.

i think the "arms up" is fine. its the expression on her face that draws my attention away.

other than that, great lighting.

I Don't know if it is the "Correct" way but here is what I did. Background is a black bed sheet.

I used an umbrella softbox on camera left. it is behind her, almost facing the camera. Used a piece of foamboard as a gobo between light and camera, angled to toward camera left to keep from reflecting light back at her. Camera right used my second strobe with homemade snoot. Used black carrying bag that came with my lightstand. Couldn't seem to find any black posterboard around here.

Here is a really rough diagram.

i dont like her looking into the camera - eyes averted would be better. any pics with the partner involved?

Thanks XT very informative. Producing lovely warm lighting. The light fall off on the belly is wonderful. If you do any more belly shots I would use same lighting setup.

the last session was my last chance, she will be induced on tuesday if she goes that long. have quite a few low key shots, some close ups of the belly. I am however going to try to make a serious go at photography, and your feedback is appreciated.

The first one with the arms up, is my favorite. Very creative on the lighting set up.

the drawing sucks but I always like to share because, I want others to share with me. lighting books can get expensive, and i'd rather buy equipment at this point. LOL
