The pdf file has a creation date of Aug 28th, 2006, on a french language version Windows PC.

The links and linked files look normal, but I'm not familiar with the retailer (in Paris). Site appears genuine though I haven't checked the domain registrant, verified a business at that address, etc. My french comprehension is rudimentary: does the ad state the prices are Internet pricing only, not available by catalog, mention the special code?

Maybe somebody nearby can give them a call to inquire and report back.

I'm guessing that the retailer in question was guessing that this was going to be announced by Canon and took a chance that this is what it was going to be called. Seeing as there is no 40D now the only thing that may have is a little egg on their face. They took a chance, it didn't work out, no different than the multitudes of people that put vapor cameras on ebay.

Ha! A rumourist with a small bit of credibility. My rumor meter jumped from "no way" to "not likely, but remotely possible". I would hope that the change would be more significant than just stuffing more megapixels in with the same supporting circuitry.

how long has it been since 30D was announced? yes.. correct, I don't think we gonna see 40D before canon makes some nice money on the this model... and most probably prices wont drop that easily, its business...

I would rather have nine laid out differently, like in a checkerboard pattern, with one at each of the four "rule of thirds" points. In fact, I'd be pretty happy with just five... four corners and a good center point.

It seems the 400D suffers more from noise, so i'd hope they wouldn't just add MP's to the same sensor that appears to be at its apex.

It's funny if the 30D had more megapixels, I'm sure many ppl wouldn't be calling the 30D a minimal upgrade. That's the most ironic thing.

I'm calling this 40D a minimal upgrade. Few extra MP, dust removal system, OK.. the 30D had the 2.5" LCD so that isn't an upgrade. 9 AF points, same old focusing system. WHAT?!

The 400D sounds like better value to be honest. I get all of the above, now with the new AF system, AND it's $800 (MSRP) vs $1300 projected MSRP. "Small camera" doesn't worry me, I hang onto the lens and rest just a couple of fingers on the body anyway.

Canon had better bring out some serious surprises in the 40D to impress me into buying one.....

They're probably not going to get me to buy one either way, but you're right - they need more than just a few megapixels here. Although the market seems to prefer megapixels to anything else.

Aaah, it's not just that I am being unobservant then. I have hunted all over that PDF and cannot find any mention of a 40D. I assumed that the OP had just misread 400D, but others seemed to have seen it too.

If it actually DOES mention a 40D, where is it ??
