I have the opportunity of buying the above lens in almost new condition at a very reasonable price. I heard that some Sigma lenses were not compatible with the 10D. Can anyone throw any light on this and can anyone confirm whether the lens is useable or not with the 10D. Many thanks.

Hi Ian,
I bought the Sigma 17-35 EX with my 10D and it works fine. I use it almost all the time for landscape/skyscape/sunset work and it gives very good results for its price. If you can pick it up second hand or cheap then I think it is a real bargain.
Cheers

No problem. :) Good luck with that, and post some pictures up when you have it.
Older Sigma lenses, of around before 2000 are the ones that have problems. Anything after that you should be OK with.
Cheers

I don't have this lens, but I've heard and read before that the 17-35 EX is one of Sigma's worst lenses.... for example, see these reviews: http://www.fredmiranda.com/reviews/showproduct.php?product=95&sort=7&thecat=29

I bought mine early this year so it's relatively new. I've never had any problems with it nor have I noticed anything out of the ordinary in terms of picture quality. It's the only wide angle zoom lens I have so I use it all the time for indoor shooting where I need to get more than one or two people in the shot.
However, as with any used or older lens, I would try it out first to make sure that you'll be satisfied with the one you are contemplating getting.

Always good to get someone else's opinion. I have bought the lens on a 15 day "try-before-you-buy" basis. If I don't want it, I have up to fifteen days to return it for a full refund.

I bought the Sigma 17-35 when I first bought the 10D. I may have had two bad examples of the lens, but it put me off Sigma for life. I would take several test photos at varying apetures before committing yourself. Both examples that I had were poor at wide open, and I shoot a lot at maximum apeture so the lens did not suit my needs. I traded up to the 17-40L
Hope you have better luck

I use a Sigma 17-35mm with my canon 10D, and use it a lot and like the lens. I'm aware it has has some bad reviews, but I purchased mine (S/H) for £200. and have been well pleased with the rsults.

most of the shots were taken with this lens.
