WOW, I finally have CS2 and uploaded the midnight sepia action. I went back to some wedding shots I did and converted the black and whites to midnight sepia. Just that action ads soooo much to the picture, it is AMAZING!!

Be careful with MS though... it is very addicting and can be used way too much. I use it probably too much myself but it does do wonders to portraits for sure.

I had great luck with it the first time I used it, but haven't had that great of results since.

I love all the "midnight" filters (though blue and violet are a bit bold unless it's on a picture perfect for those...). Have you ever used the "monday morning" ones? Those too can have some fantastic results.

yah, you can get a little crazy with it.... there are definitely situations where it enhances the art:p , then there are situations where it is clearly the wrong process......:o

Thanks for the example. Is that one of when you had success with it? Or when you didn't.

I'm kind of up in the air as to whether I like the effect. I realize what it's trying to do but I didn't like it much when there was a whole craze of "glamour" shots in the Asian (Korean/Chinese/Taiwanese) photography industry here in N. America some 10 years back.

I guess it has its appropriate uses, maybe I'll give it a try and see what happens!

i use it on a lot of my wedding photo's, i recently used it for a commercial shoot too, hummer for hire, i took photo's in this guys front yard because he couldn't take it out to get some with the wineries in the background, so i emphasised on the hummer and used midnight sepia without converting to B&W first, and the black hummer came out awesomely!

I use it sometimes, sparingly. I often blend it at about 50% opacity with the original.

You should check out the midnight B&W too, did one for my last wedding and the bride took it. (and the midnight sepia)

Do you mean midnight black, or is there a midnight B&W that I can't find?

The action I uploaded was definitely called Midnight Sepia.. I think Dave's Midnight Sepia. I also prefer the look in wedding photos

I have been using the Midnight Sepia action for a couple of years now. Rather than people, I find it most effective on cityscapes. Here is one shot from the Space Needle in Seattle, looking south.

Rad

And, while I was at it, I also used a Dragan filter and Urban Acid (Which is pretty close to a E6/C41 cross process.)

And lastly (since it is still on the image server) is the Midnight Sepia version that I layered, straightened and boosted the color in. This I eventually printed.

Is something wrong w/my eyes? I don't see the space needle.

I like them all. The urban one is a cool effect.

I agree with Tim, whenever I use an action like this (and also the Kubota actions) I always turn done the opacity on the effected layer.

I've never used midnight sepia (or my version of it anyway) on a b&w, only on colour. I'll have to try converting one to b&w and see what it does.

Hey Jeff, no lie... I saw a guy at work who looked as though he could be your twin brother. Freaked me right out.
