1st of September 2006 (Fri), 15:17
This spend-a-thon is for material bought between 00h:00m 01/September/2006 and 23h:59m 30/September/2006.
So, here's the recent past data:
July 2005 Spend-a-thon -> US$116,000.00
December 2005 Spend-a-thon -> US$272,000.00
July 2006 Spend-a-thon -> US$260,000.00
August 2006 Spend-a-thon -> US$76,988.17
September 2006 Spend-a-Thon -> ?????????
Here's the fine print from the thread:
Please wander over to this thread during this month every time you spend money on photography gear.
Thats globally. All brands, A to Z including computer parts for photography processing....
Please post your spending in USD to make it easy.
( Do your own currency conversions easily at http://www.xe.com (http://www.xe.com/) )
How much are we spending in September 2006? Bored minds want to know.
There's no need to mention much except the total $$ involved and the date I guess. Keep the nitty gritty to yourself if you want... give a ballpark figure to the nearest $25 or so - do we spend $50k a month here? $75k? :cool:
Start spending !!!

Can you not just do it twice a year like we used to? Its a pain, not worth it and people don't care. It won't have the effect the twice a year one has.
Basically...STOP...PLEASE :D

It would be a pain for me to have to accumulate 6 months worth of data!
On the first day of September alone, I spent $640 on the way to a location shoot.
Bought an Extra Pocket Wizard Multi-Max
a Photoflex clamshell case
a pocket wizard to strobe cable
a roll of 9 foot Savage Seamless Paper.

Don't feel that just because there's a thread tracking spending this month that you have to spend lots of money!!

I don't...I just feel that if it operates every month, people will tend to not bother logging spendings, meaning its not very accurate. Look at August vs July - July had 200,000+ spent, august had 70,000. After accounting for a bit of seasonal variation, I really doubt you'd get a difference of over 130,000 dollars spent month to month. Obviously, participation is lower because people can't be bothered. If its kept as a twice yearly thing, then people can be bothered.

i agree too that doing it every month is a bit much.

Tkz for taking the time to express you're opinion.
Personaly, i'm interested in knowing how mutch is spent over the time frame of 1 year in photo equipment by the POTN users. That is the reason i started these post's except for the July and December post's that will remain Carzee's post's.
If you want to participate, you are verry welcome to do so, if you do not want to participate just don't open the post and don't participate. I am not breaking any POTN rules with these post's and i'm not puting a gun to anyone's head and forcing them to participate. I'm shure you do not open eatch and every one of the 100's of new post's that show up in here daily. Just do the same with this one.
The only thing that i'm doing with these post's is satisfying my own curiosity, and probably some one else's curiosity as well since the last month Spend-a-Thon post had over 1000 views and only 66 of them were spendings.
If you want to participate, i can only say Thank You, if you do not want to participate i thank you as well.
Can't do mutch more then that...

If someone wants to do it, why not? I did the one for the triple rebates and that was fun.
Here: 70-200L f4 $595 from B&H including delivery on September 1 - finally took the leap.

It was because of the rebates this July. If triple rebates come back this fall, it will be another big December, I think.

I think that graph shows more a decline in participation than an accurate modulation of POTN's spending over the past few months.
In any case I am happy to contribute to September's spend-a-thon with my purchase of a $55 B+W filter
