ASIA - All four original members reunited tour. At my local venue, Penn's Peak, Jim Thorpe, PA:D

Had seat in the very first row after the PIT. Couldn't get a PIC at all. This is all I could get at encore, last song.:o

I heeded critique advise from previous postings. It's greatly appreciated.

John

The trick to shooting concerts is to not get caught up in the 'heat of the moment'.

ok, bad joke..

Anyways, in a dark setting like this I would have gone with the apeture full open to 1.4 and let the camera pick the exposure time.

Great, Thanks KasiaFan, you reinforce the actual solution to my problem.

I now have a good idea of how this varaible adjustment of the ISO, aperture and shooting speed can work to my benefit on the 30D.

Mine original pointer regarding these features were also addressed through a previous post response by Dwight McCann. I remembered to pre set the ISO as he said. The remainder, ie; speed and apperture I fumbled with, and I've yet to master. Although, I once used to do it manually on the old SLR's.

After having read the Canon EOS 30D Instructions Manual and reviewing the "Jump Start Guides for the EOS 30D" on DVD your advice is best of all. (The DVD only plays on the newest players, otherwise it is either only sound or only video.)

The next several events place me in the very front row center, with no PIT. I'm looking forward to applying all these fantastic methods available to me through the control dials of the Canon Digital SLR.

Thanks to all you guys who take the time to review and occassionally comment.

Much appreciated,

John

Nice image, allthough the band members could be lightened somewhat in Photoshop.
Two things: Pity it is just not symmetrical (right side monitor and blinder are cut off), and the horizon is tilted quite a bit.

Good eye Rene, Thanks,:D

At most shows from this venue as a non-professional and a paid attendee, I shoot a few up front. At the very end of the show I like to catch the audience standing with the lights on etc. from any available spot in the back of the venue.

I do this often. Therefore, I will look to apply your pointers to the scene again this coming weekend. The 30D is a lot better than my old 35mm SLR.

I just have to familiarize myself with the setting variables and how they work together best at this venue.

Thanks Rene,:D

I actually took 8 shots within 45 seconds, sustaining ISO at 1600 with a few different settings. This one had the best performer positions...other pics were more symmetrical, some are slightly under exposed other ones are almost same as this....

This was a "Hail Mary" (a loose phrase from American Football), type of a last second attempt, not knowing what will happen with the stage/venue lighting any second there after...;-)

This Friday night, I'll try again, same camera, sames lens....a bit more know how thanks to y'all.....:D
