Many photographers carry a camera with them at all times so they can take great pictures they come across. I would, however, be concerned about taking it to work with you. If your job allows, you could take it in with you at work, and keep it somewhere safe. Otherwise, I would at least lock it in the truck (though you have to worry about heat damage if it gets too hot where you are).

I NEVER leave anything valuable in my car, wherever I go. Nothing has ever been stolen, but why take the risk? Even if I leave the car for 5 minutes when I have my camera with me, I take it with me out of the car.

I agree. I take my 10D to work nearly every day, but even though it is a fair weight I still stick it in a small lowepro bag (nova 2 fits 10D, grip and 17-40L - just!) and take it into my workplace.
Never know, may be useful in work one day too... :D

It's not crazy, unless you leave it showing. Never tease a potential crook with exposed CD's, wallets, cameras or other tempting goods in your locked or unlocked vehicle.

I would recommend taking the camera in to work with you. You never know when you can grab a shot of your boss in a comprimising position and get yourself a raise! :)

Seriously, take the camera with you. A photo op does not always wait for you to run out to your car, or even go home to get the camera.
