View Full Version : Scanner and Camera Compatible?

Hello everyone. This is my first post here, there seems to be a wealth of information on this message board, so maybe you can help me out.
I was reading and searching on google.com and although I cannot find the site again, it said somewhere that Canon Scanners and Digital Cameras are not compatible, if they are plugged in to a USB port at the same time. Apparently only one will work?
Also, I am thinking of purchasing a Canon PowerShot A60. It costs $130 CDN extra to get the A70. Is it worth it, as I will not be printing out anything larger than 5x7?
Thanks in Advance
A60 -- $320
A70 -- $450

The A70 might be worth it if you want to 'crop' some shots to concentrate on only a portion of the frame and still print it on the 5x7 without any degredation of image quality.
Also, what about the future, perhaps you might like to do some 8 x 10 (or bigger) at some future time. The extra pixels just might be worth it then.
But on the other had, it is a big jump from the A60 price to A70 price... Money that could otherwise go towards batteries and cards, right now...

Well, I never have tried to crop an image, and even with my film camera I never printed anything larger than maximum 8x10 once in awhile.
As for the A70, I have heard about so many problems with it let alone being over $100 extra, I probably will stay with the A60.
As for the compatibility with the scanner, does anyone know?
Thank-you!

I've heard of conflicts between other imaging devices using the USB ports at the same time as the camera causing problems. I've never had a problem though. I'm not one for scanning while downloading pictures, so it just so happens that my scanner/printer is off while downloading. (Both Canon using Canon software drivers.)
You may have been hearing 'so much more' problems about the a70 for various possible reasons: so much more are sold, or perhaps the a70 users are so much more active, more picky, or more vocal. I haven't seen any actual comparisons of problems reported per so many units sold of each model...

Thanks stopbath for the information! I'll be picking up this camera probably during Boxing Day Sales in Canada. The two local Electronics stores keep lowering their prices by $10 to beat each other, so who knows, I might end up paying $270! Hehe.
The problems I have been hearing about the A70 were mainly that there are dust pieces on the lens and inside the lens. Others get the E18 error more often than the A60? Although the A70 they sell here is the "Cobalt" version (Cobalt handle where shutter button is located).
But in any case I heard the Malasian factory where they are made had bad quality control issues?
Well, thanks for the help stopbath!
Bye

Your welcome.
I have one of the early A70's and I've never gotten an E18 error. I haven't had any real problems with it. (Malaysia) Oh, there is a small bit of dust or particle of something on an interal lens of the viewfinder (been there for a few months.)
Have fun on boxing day.

I have no problems with scanners/cameras/card readers etc all at the same time. See http://forums.powershot-a.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7064 For details.
