My job requires a good deal of travel, and I'm always looking for something new to shoot. Well, my last trip to Montreal provided just that. I took these shots at the Basilique Notre-Dame de Montreal on Sunday, August 20. I used the 20D, the Sigma 17-70mm (damn, I love that lens!), a remote, and a cheap little $15.00 mini-tripod.
From the pew:

The Sanctuary and Altar:

The Organ, which has approximately 7,000 pipes:

The front of the Basilica:

As you can see by the sky in the last shot, it wasn't exactly a sunny day, which I why I decided to venture indoors.
I'm not a particularly religious guy, but I was in awe of this place. The architecture and construction were absolutely amazing. If you happen to find yourself in Montreal on a rainy Sunday afternoon, I highly recommend it...

It was an amazing place. I haven't gone to church in years, but I can't imagine going to a place like that every Sunday...

These are such dark places inside as you know Steve to photograph, but you have done handsomely well with light, colour and detail fantastic photography, well done.

Great shots Steve, I didnt know they allowed photo's inside. It's beeen years since I went inside there.
Montreal has a lot of great photo opportunities, and Old Montreal can keep you busy for weeks.
If you're back here in September/October there is a Chinese Lantern display at the Botanical Gardens that is great. It runs from September 8 to October 31.
Let me know maybe we can hook up.

Wayne, I was surprised to learn that, not only did they allow photography, they allowed flash photography.
I'm going to be in Montreal again in early October, but I don't have the dates yet. It's goiing to be a whirlwind business trip, but I may be able to work in an extra day to do some shooting.
I'll definitely let you know...

Nor am I, Nic. But I think everyone should see something like this. It's the very definition of the phrase "They just don't build 'em like that anymore"...
