Has anyone ever used the Sigma 28mm f/1.8?
It looks pretty appealing but at the same price as an OEM 50mm f/1.4, and hearing it back focusses, is the wider angle worth it?
Any experience with it?
Thanks

Have you looked here? (http://www.fredmiranda.com/reviews/)

Yeah I did thanks, But I was hoping for some first hand stuff, some of those reviews are so opposite other ones that you don't know which to believe haha

There's alot of opposite opinions and reviews here too, just take it all with a grain of salt. I'd also look into the Sigma 30 1.4 EX.

I'd also look into the Sigma 30 1.4 EX.
I would say if you're shooting 1.6x, get the 30f1.4EX easily over the 28f1.8EX. It's faster, sharper, smaller, ring HSM/FTM, etcetera. But I have used the 28EX and the one copy I had was very good optically but it mis-focused on both 20D bodies and 1DMK2N. I didn't bother to send it in for adjustment (actually it was someone elses lens who had asked me to try/test it out).
Note that if you do get the 28EX, it's clunky with the 2-step focus mechanism. But it being an f1.8 lens, it's worth a look if you can get a good deal on one.

The 30mm f/1.4 is $430 compared to $270 for the 28mm f/1.8, asking for the 28 for Christmas is already a stretch, but at alsmot $200 more, I for sure won't get the 30mm :D
So is the 2-step focus thing that much of an annoyance that it's worth either going 30mm or neither?
Can you post some sample photos?

Sigma4Less has it for $355. I would make that stretch.

To some it is, to others it isn't. I think many "deal with" the 20f1.8EX (like me) because there isn't another lens like it that fast and that wide. But with the 28f1.8EX, you have other better options.

Not of the 28, but the 30 there are plenty online. For e.g., see http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1029&message=18979399

can I recommend you put something in your title other than "Sigma". Sigma makes and has made hundreds of different models. If you said "Sigma 28 1.8" then people with this lens might read the thread.
