I just read some dicussion in other digicam forum that we have to charge the new battery for 4-8 hours for the first time only.
Many said that, but there is no guide at all in the manual (also in other gadget manual such as mobile phone).
Is it true ? Or just a hype ?
If it is true why the manual does not say it at all about that ???

Fyi, I use Canon IXUS II with GL-series battery (similar to IXUS S400 battery).

I think it depends on the charger. If you have a 13 hour charger, then 4 to 8 hours is meaningless.

Go with your manual. If you manual does not specify overcharging the first time, then don't. Charge for the normal time required (hopefully you have a smart charger that turns off when charging is complete...)

My IXUS 400 battery took 2 hours to charge when new.
Anyway, the battery charger light will go green when the battery is ready for use.

My manual states "It takes approximately 130 minutes to fully charge the battery pack from a fully discharged state."

Anyway, as a further note, the manual also says:

"Charge times may vary according to ambient temperature and the battery pack's charge state."

"You may hear a noise during charging. This is not a malfunction".

My charger model is CB-2LSE.

Hope this helps.
