it seem like there are some dust spots on my pics.

If there are dust spots on the focus screen (the above the mirror)does it show or is the dust on the sensor?

I cant seem to find out if it's on the focus screen or if it's on the sensor.

Thanks in advance.

What you see on the focus screen has nothing to do with what the sensor sees. (Otherwise, you'd see the focus squares in all your shots :) )

You can clean the focus screen with a blower. (Never rub it with anything). If the dust is on the bottom of the screen, it should blow off. If it's on top of the screen, it will have to be removed. I would get this done professionally.

There are several hundred messages on sensor cleaning.. Just enter 'sensor clean' in the search feature.

thank you.

I think I'll just send it out to canon for service.
I dont want to break anything.

As Jim said, dust on the focus screen will never show up on a photo. The same goes for any dust on the mirror. Even dust on the front element of the lens or dirt inside the lens will not show up as spots on your images.

On the other hand, dust on your sensor will show up as fuzzy spots on your images, particularly at higher f-stop values (i.e., f/16). Get a Giottos Rocket Blower and read your manual on how to clean your sensor, because you ar going to probably need to do it a few times a year if you only occassionally take off a lens and weekly to monthly if your exchanging lenses all the time.

You'll be sending it in to Canon a few times a year then ... it's better to learn how to clean the sensor yourself. :)

Thanks for the suggestions.
I just ordered a copperhill cleaning kit.
Hopefully it comes in by this weekend for I will give it a shot.

Go to a camera store an by a Giottos Rocket Blower ($10) and it will deal with 98% of your dust problems. I have yet had to use a "wet" method to remove dust. Also, if you shoot at f/11 or wider you probably won't notice sensor dust even if the sensor is quite dirty.
