My mountain

I was up in Portland for the weekend, and I snapped this shot of the mountian I live on, Mt. Shasta. This picture is from the north, about 35 miles from my house, which is on the other side of that very symmetrical smaller mountain to the right. It was handheld, so it isn't very sharp. I am experimenting with digital matting options so I apologize if it's not your style. I saw that there's a plugin that generates mats for pictures, but it's 200 bucks, so I gave it a shot using my own elbow grease in Photoshop.

Its a nice image and composition. I might have tried cropping a bit of the sky to emphasise the view even more.

Haha, well I live at about 3,500 feet, and the mountain is 14,162 feet. So needless to say, it's not very cold in the summer here (obviously it's cold higher up though, the glaciers are a dead giveaway). In the winter it does get very cold and it snows constantly, we get buried by five foot snowfalls quite often in the town. At the end of winter, some places on the mountain have more than fifty feet of snow.

Indeed. There is a 1 in 3 chance of it erupting in anyone's lifetime, so I have to keep my fingers crossed. For the last couple thousand years it has erupted every couple hundred years, and it's been about 220 years since the last one, we're due pretty soon.
