I am a wedding photographer. I currently use a canon film camera. For the candids I use a bracket and a sunpak 120j on manual.

I want to switch to digital.

I have allready decided to pick up 2 D30 bodies.

My question is will the D30's work well with my 120j.

any help would be greatly apreciated.

Double check the potential difference between the flash trigger terminals of Sunpak. If the trigger voltage exceeds D30 safe limit (as far as I know 6V), you may damage your D30.

Moreover, if you use flashes customized for EOS series, you will get the features like ETTL and fill in, 2nd curtain sync, High speed Sync etc. Focus assist beam is also very useful. So you may reconsider Canon 550EX, 420EX or Sigma EF500 Super than Sunpak.

I would get a 550ex if given no other choice. I prefer the sunpak because of the bare bulb reflector combo.

Also I prefer manual flash which doesn't get tricked by a white wedding dress or black tuxedo.

I've got a sunpak 644 auto with the canon eos adaptor and it still doesn't work on full automatic. works fine on manual, but that defeats the purpose of having an auto flash.. stick with the canon always seems to work.
ps anyone know someone wanting to buy a 644 auto... :P
