View Full Version : Soggy old Goodwood Revival.

Well, against my better judgement I trailed along to the Goodwood Revival Meeting on Saturday. It was dark and at times, very, very wet. Such is the joy of a late English summer.

#1 We'll start off with bikes and a pan shot because as you all know, I don't do either of those. Apparently pan shots are traditional with bikes though. This is a Matchless G50, BTW.

#2 The ultimate Ferrari GT, the incomparable 62/63 model Ferrari 250 GTO. You really don't want to ask how much one of these costs.

http://images.fotopic.net/dl-v2/orig/yj2p4p.jpg

#3 Of course the peril of racing old cars, is that sometimes they go "bang". Here's an Alfa letting go.

#4 Another of those bike shots I don't do. After a couple of swings of the camera I got bored with doing pans and went back to a more "me" type shot. I'm probably breaking all sorts of bike shooting conventions. Tough!

#5 Another 250GTO - this time the very rate '64 model. Only four of these were ever built. As you can see it was extremely dark and soggy when I took that one.

#6 Another bike shot... this is my last one for a year or so. All you bike photographers can get back in your baskets now :p The rider is one Wayne Gardner, an Australian chappy who I am told is well known in the two wheels plus engine world.

#7 A Bugatti. Got to have a Bugatti at a classic event even if they are way off of "period".

#8 and finally, my favourite Ferrari. The mighty Ferrari 330 LMB. Again, there were only ever four of these.

Thanks for looking. Plenty more to see here http://gallery.ukmotorsportpics.com/c1072250_1.html!

Some very, very nice tin on display Glenn. Those Ferraris are stunning, but it's the Bugatti in #7 that's the pick of this bunch for me. Nice shot of Wayne Gardner mind as well.

Cheers,

Simon.

And a fine late English Summer it is!!... Very nice photos.

I also have to go with the Bugatti for my fave image. Tough as a kid I grew up with Piquet, Reutemann, Brahms, Fittipaldi, Lauda -still remember his accident-, Andretti, Williams, Jones; I still favored the older races (Fangio used to be my hero), back where a pit stop was someone in the middle of the road throwing a tank of gas to the co-pilot.

Not much of a motorcycle fan, but that first pan photo is awesome. Everything is frozen, and the background is perfectly uniform in the movement.

Cheers, and don't let the rain get you down, Fall is just around the corner !...

Stunning shots of equally stunning machines , browsing the gallery the one that made me stare was the safety car , it appears to be an Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato

I'm loving the 250 and 330 shots.

The "Glenn Style" bike shots work well, ignore your critics!

I saw the first one and thought "10D". Not sure why. Checked the EXIF and there it was. Strange.

I know that you are fond of neither bikes nor pans but the Matchless G50 is just spectacular. Thanks for posting it.
The AJS (#6) is also as good as they get.
Just love all the old iron.
Thanks for braving the elements for us Glenn. Great work.

Thanks for the comments people :)

Simon and Mario, yes I think the Bugatti shot was probably one of the better ones of the day. A shutter speed of 1/200th at 500mm worked out just about perfectly for that one.

Well Mr. Smartiepants ( Great, I can call someone that without being insulting ) in defence of my somewhat tarnished soul, can I point out that Mr. Minshaw's Birdcage was running on Sunday and I was there on Saturday? ;)

Indeed it is a Zagato bodied DB4... as they say in some parts "Now there's posh, isn't it?"

The 10D always has a certain "look" about it. I still think (controversy alert) that the 10D produces the most natural colours of all the Canon dSLRs. Of course it could also be that you know I tend to keep my shorter lenses on the10D. That was with the 120-300mm f/2.8.

Great shots Glenn. Start off with a pan shot huh;)

Thought I'd get the unpleasantness out of the way to start off with ;)

Oh, bikes are are all right, I suppose! ;) I always enjoy the Goodwood race run, since his death, in the memory of Barry Sheene who entertained the crowds there for so many years and who won his last ever race there. Admittedly the last one was subtly gifted to him by Wayne Gardner as Barry was very, very ill at the time, but I don't think anyone minded.

I will let you off then & take back the slur I made about you being soulless ;) :D
Just a bad judge on what day to go to the Revival ;)

Again, in my defence, I was there on Saturday because I had a particular car to photograph in the Fordwater Trophy so it wasn't entirely my own choice.

However, I might point out that by not being there on Sunday it meant that I missed out on the "singing" this year (is "warbling" more appropriate or possibly "wailing"? "caterwauling" might be better?) This cannot be a bad thing! ;)

I guess I'm lucky enough to wear ear plugs all day
