Hey everyone I just a had a question. Sence we live in the GREAT USA!!!! I was onedering Would it be wise to buy from canada? I mean with the exchage rate @ 40 % i mean thats alot of money we could save. If you take a a 70-200 2.8 L that cost $2000 you could really save lot of money. I would think. Any one ever done this and bought from cananda? Did you save much on it? And are the warantys the same? And also do you have any links to some canadian sites? Thanks for the help in advace!!!!!!

I live in Canada and if the exchange rate was reversed I would be purchasing in the US. The following are a few Canadian Dealers:
http://www.thecamerastore.com/
http://www.mcbaincamera.com/
http://www.adencamera.com/
http://www.henrys.com/
My preferences are the first two. I believe all of the above have 1-800 numbers listed on their sites.
If you call the Camera Store ask for Peter. If you call McBain Camera ask for Tom. You can say that Dale Kaechler recommended them. I'm not associated with either store and I don't get any kick back on referrals, they are both good people and gave me good prices on anything I have purchased from them.

I bought my D30 from AdenCamera and had no problems with the transaction, except one, I had the camera shipped to my office and it was addressed "My Company Name" then "My Name".
It got caught up in Customs for an extra day. The Fedex guy told me that if it had been under my personal name it would have went right through. I asked if there was a duty and he told me no. Then they tried to charge me $50.00 duty after I got it but credited it back when I called and argued.
All in all I got the D30, the microdrive and battery (with the camera, didn't have to wait) PLUS the battery grip and a USA warranty for the same as I would have paid at B&H WITHOUT the battery grip. (This was 8 months ago).

Sir i took alook at the canadian web site you sent me but, there prices are out of this world. its like they raised them to what ever the current american exchange rate it. Here i nthe states i can get a 70-200 2.8 IS for 2000 up there i see 3200 3000 dollares that s thousand more up there. Also 28-70 2.8 i see again its over 2000 2199 and then you subtract like 40 percnet and you get like 1300 which is what it is here in the states. So is htere really any benafit to buy from cananda. I dont see it. Maybe these stores are just over priced, or they chagre more thinking that americans will buy there to save money.

Gee you called me Sir! How refreshing. not very comon these days to see the younger generation respect age. Camera items are more expensive in Canada compared to the USA . There are some dealers who will give you a better price than what is listed on their web site. Try calling the 1-800 number of the first two on the list. I found that Aden and Henrys are firm on their prices. The other two are more likely to give you a better deal.

:) Which is why many of us Canadians actually look to the States for savings, despite the exchange rate, duties, brokerage fees, etc. I have to concur with Dale though on looking to the first two retailers he mentioned. As far as Henry's goes, I find their prices WAY overblown! I don't know what they're thinking but someone must be buying at those prices or they'd bother to make them competitive. Just to give you some other options to look into if you really want to buy Canadian, there is also Simon's Cameras www.simonscameras.com. As Dale said though, best to call them up through their 1-800 number.
Curious though, why not buy from Delta International? They have great prices.
Good luck!
