This may have been covered but I can't find it.

I have a spare 40GB HDD and a portable USB 2.0 housing is on its way so that I can use it for out of computer backup. It includes a power supply.

Somebody will now have worked out how to use this disk to accept download from my 300D, either directly, or via a card reader. Presumably some transfer programme (OS?) will be needed with basic indication of download activity? Just seems an excellent way of providing mobile storage at very modest cost. There will be a snag or two no doubt ....

I have the same setup. 40 GB/USB 2.0 external. I use it to backup my large collection on my various computers. Don't know how you would make it work directly with a camera, unless you add a layer of hardware and software to it. I remember on this forum that there was a HDD case that provided these services. Do a search and you should find it.

Yes,

I thought I remembered someone with a brilliant conversion on one of these forums but a search revealed no luck.

Maybe Santa will provide ......
