I am looking for some guidance on how to use the iptc copyright fields.

What should I put in the copyright field and or the copyright URL notice if my images? I assume the is some sort of convention regarding how to state / establish that an image is mine but am unsure of exactly what to use in these fields.

Thanks

Ewan

www.iptc.org has documentation that explains all the IPTC fields including teh copyright fields. One of the samples I saw was like this:

© 2006 Your Name, all rights reserved.

Personally, I just put my name and date (year/month) in that field.

As for the URL field, I guess you can use that to point to a website page which contains more details about the copyright and how one may or may not use your photos.

Mine is about same as PacAce wrote...
© Primoz Jeroncic/Photo SI, all rights reserved
Nothing complicated :)

From what I've read the most airtight statement is "Copyright ©2006 Your Name. All Rights Reserved." Which is what I use. At the very least you need the copyright symbol, date, and your name.

That's what I do if I were to put the copyright on the face of an image but I never bothered to include the copyright symbol in the copyright field itsef, thinking that it was kind of redundant since the field is for the copyright info. But, since it doesn't hurt to have it in there, henceforth, I'll include the copyright symbol in the copyright field, too. :)
