I just purchased a G3 off EBAY and the lens hood is loose. All functions of the camera appear to work well. The hood had three tabs around the circumference and there doesn't seem to be a mating place on the lens for the hood to lock into.

Is there a missing piece around the lens? Is there a website for a parts diagram?

What lens hood? Do you mean the removable lens outer barrel?

That must be it. It is marked "Canon Zoom Lens" on the top and "7.2-28.2mm" on the bottom. It fits over the outside of the lens. It slides off with the lens cover and it seems like it should lock onto the lens somehow.

I found the parts diagram. It appears that I am missing the base of the front ring assembly.

thefotogeeks.com had the part for $25. The base of the front ring was indeed missing.
