Now that I have narrowed my choices in purchasing a digital cam to the G5 or the 300D/Digital Rebel there is one further question I must ask. Is it true that pictures taken with the 300D/Digital rebel must be altered in 3rd party software (such as Photoshop) more than the G5 pictures? Are the G5 pictures right out of the cam more perfect. I have heard on more than one occassion that the DR pictures must be corrected in Photoshop to achieve that stellar image. Whereas the G5 pictures need little changing. I would think that the price of the DR would indicate a better in-camera picture. Please advise. Thanks to all.

Frank,

No that is not the correct inference to draw. Canon have a different philosophy for different cameras based on their view of segment needs. The P&S cameras are designed to give highly sharpened, saturated pictures out of the camera because (on the whole) P&S users want "instant snaps".

DSLRs designed for the professional or advanced amateur do less in camera processing and give more options and controls because (by and large) this group of users want more control of the image capture and processing and more freedom to make creative choices about the final picture. The 10D falls into this group. The 300DRebel is somewhere in between.
