Fortunately, it was the shot that got away from the photographer on the other side of the field. I assume that he was focused on the return man 50 yards downfield. Unfortunately for me, my timing was just about perfect on the only night game of the season and this was the best I could do with my camera and lens pushed to the limit--3200 ISO, 2.8, and somehow I got the speed up to 1/640.

Sweet :D
That shot really shows how dynamic the game can be.
Unless he's kicking the ball and player downfield.

No, I bet he was focused on those cheerleaders standing right in front of him. You should find out who he is, if you don't already know, and send him a copy with the caption, "when hormones are in check, you get great shots like this!":D

Ohmigod! I'd kill for a shot like this. Timing is everything, they say. :)

In the old days of film I wouldn't have gotten this shot. I couldn't afford to take a photograph of every punt in hopes that it would be the rare punt that gets blocked. In this case I simply tried to get the ball coming off the foot, knowing that this would capture the action if a blocker got through.
As an aside, this player is from Utah so his parents don't get to many games in Mississippi. I received the nicest email from his mom last year thanking me for the photos that I take and post on the internet so it was especially gratifying to get a great action shot of her son.

Cool...AWESOME Cool. Great shot! I love when someone comes with all the big guns and I get a priceless shot they miss! Course I probably miss 10 good ones that they get! LOL. Love the story too about the player's mom. That is just icing on the cake. Congrats!
