sorry to post this here but i wasnt getting any hits at the equipment forum..i have about another wk or so until my a620 cant be returned. i can upgrade to a s3 for about 90 bucks. would it be a good upgrade? ill like macro stuff the best but i take all sorts of shots. someone said the s3 sensor isnt as good. all things considered should i just stick with the a620? and what advantage would the s3 give me?
again, sorry to post here but my time is running out..i think price goes back up on saturday.

laq: I am not familiar with either model but I think you deserve a response to a very good question.... Based on the shots I see you posting I would say your exisiting camera works very well.... I thought the digital picture might have a review on the two but don't see one.... I would say if there are some features you like more on the s3 and all other things remain equal it is a good upgrade... If you like the performance and ergonomics with layout of your existing I wouldn't jump at it... It is like going from a Digital Rebel to a 30D.... There are clear advantages to the newer model but the images are absolutely no better. I have, and still shoot my DRebel and 20D's and unless I look at the Exif file I can't tell which camera the shot came from.... My consideration when upgrading was solely made for the faster wakeup time.... Are there real world short comings you see with your exisiting and are they addressed with the s3 I guess would be my main consideration..Hope this isn't just babble.... Good luck on your decision....Alex

Hiya Tony,
The only thing I can suggest is to look at the quality of the shots from your camera & maybe compare them to similar shots that other people have taken with the S3 IS, not very accurate really but unless you can borrow one to do a side by side comparison I can't think of how else you could make your mind up.
I know one can go into all sorts of technical comparisons but at the end of the day you can have the best equipment available & still be a crappy photographer or you can be a great photographer with relatively inexpensive equipment, it swings & roundabouts:confused: .
If I were going to change for a new camera I would make the move to DSLR as I feel the S3 IS is as good as any high end P&S around gets, actually I'm thinking of robbing a bank ;) ;) & buying the new 400D when it comes available here in UK.
I think having the confidence in your own work helps & not to be to self critical, its all to easy to look at others work & think Christ I wish I was as good as him/her, I wonder if I got the same camera I'd be as good?? Na practice practice practice that what'll make you good.
Sorry I do ramble on some, it comes with age or being an ol fart:lol:
Cheers for now
Mark:)

what happens to the A620 if you return it - is it reboxed and sold as new, interesting.
You will be paying for the longer reach 432mm v 140mm, macro wont be much different.

Hiya Tony,
You've made the right decision I feel ;) just save up for that DSLR.
I'm trying to do that myself, it's going to take a long time but it'll be worth the wait plus by then I'll hopefully be good enough at shooting Macro to get the best out of a DSLR mmmm we'll see eh.
Cheers for now
