Very sad news for any Australian motorsport fan. As a photographer who covers motorsport here in Aus it is also terrible news.

Sad news indeed, and not just for Australians. Peter Brock was well known & respected this side of the Tasman as well. As an XU-1 driver I surely can't let this pass without a tribute photo, sure those of you who have seen it before won't mind me reposting.

he was indeed a legend on both sides of the tasman. He inspired alot of drivers, whom today are making the Super V8's the racing that it is today. He will be missed by many.

Just thought I'd let everyone know.
He was killed during the Targa West Rally at 12.00pm AEST after losing control of his car and hitting a tree. His co-driver is in stable condition in hospital.
I liked Peter, great driver. I'll sadly miss his racing ability.
My condolences to his family, friends and many fans, both in Australia, and around the world.

I've just heard, and could not believe it!
He was up at Gidgi for Ralley :(
Again though, like SI, he died doing what he loved.
God Bless Peter...

A dam good driver and an excellent man.
I saw an interview with him a few years ago at home, so down to earth, and you would hardly know he was a race driver from looking at his place.

Terrible news.
He was one of Australia's greats and a driver with a truly international reputation.
Here he is from just last Saturday driving a Holden FX in the St. Mary's Trophy race at the Goodwood Revival Meeting in truly appalling weather.

He and his team also picked up the "Goodwood Supporters’ Association Spirit of Goodwood Trophy" for their contribution to the event.

Such sad news. RIP mate.
I've just been watching some old interviews and reading up on him again. Such a great life he's shared. I can still see his face on the front of the original Police / Motorway Patrol series in NZ, and also testing the cars for AA or something like that

His death reminds me of the greats that have died doing what they loved most: racing. Such greats as Tazio Nuvolari, Alberto Ascari, Jochen Rindt, Ronnie Peterson, Gilles Villeneuve, the great Jimmy Clark, and the awesome Ayrton Da Silva and a host of many other drivers too numerous to mention. Bathurst will be very different this year. :(

I got into racing cars in my early 20's, and it was partly due to the skills and amazing close racing by drivers including Brocky. I grew up holding his skills in awe.
R.I.P. Peter Brock.

Vale Peter Brock, King of the mountain, Peter Perfect and a true gentleman. A fantastic icon of the sport and a great person who never forgot his roots. I've had several conversations with him over the years and he is a wonderful person to meet. Truly a great loss.

I saw him race at Bathurst in the 80's. For last 40 or so laps it was pouring down rain & you could see the concentration on the other drivers. Not so Brocky, flying about in the wet on slicks, he still managed to wave to the crowd on the top of the mountain.
Heartrate monitors were put on Glenn Seaton & Brocky as well for a lap. Seaton had a heartrate over 140bpm for the lap, Brocky's was barely above his resting normal level.
Absolute legend of the sport.
